Great Streets Downtown Hyannis Project - Return to Two-Way Travel

The Town of Barnstable hosted the public to the final presentation of the Great Streets Downtown Hyannis project, during which final design concepts were unveiled. The presentation took place on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 in the James H. Crocker, Jr. Hearing Room, 2nd floor, of Barnstable Town Hall, 367 Main Street, Hyannis. Light refreshments were served.

The Great Streets Hyannis project is re-envisioning how Main Street Hyannis and the surrounding streets/intersections are designed and function by examining the possibility of returning to two-way traffic. At this event, the consultant team will present a review of the final plan, which includes concepts for Main Street, key intersections including ‘Six Points’, a proposed bicycle network, and circulation changes throughout downtown Hyannis. This study is informed by previous planning efforts and benefits from the input of Town staff along with feedback from local residents and merchants received through an iterative and multi-pronged community-input process.

The Town of Barnstable retained the services of Speck & Associates and Stantec Consulting Services to execute the project. The project is being coordinated with the Town’s Planning & Development and Public Works Departments.
