Commercial Fisherman Intro Course

Interested in a commercial fishing career? A free Intro Crew Training Course will be offered on July 15-17 from 8am – 5pm at 70 Center Street Unit #5 in Hyannis. The course will cover maritime safety and survival, fundamental skills, and job expectations and introduction to local fisheries.

This program is a partnership between the Brazilian Health Ministry, MassDevelopment, and the Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance. For more information, please call 774-470-4946 or email healthministryusa@gmail.com.


Hyannis Harbor Master Plan Published 

The Town of Barnstable recently published the results of the Hyannis Harbor Master Plan project, which sought to engage the public to better understand the current and future challenges of the working and recreational waterfront around Hyannis Harbor and create a cohesive strategy for the mix of uses that activate the harbor on a daily basis. In addition the plan addresses the growing development pressures in the area to better align the current zoning in order to meet today’s needs and respond to future climate change threats.

The final report includes an existing conditions assessment of the area, a flood vulnerability assessment and flood resilience recommendations, land use and design guidelines recommendations, zoning and harbor use recommendations, economic development recommendations, and and overall project story map.


EforAll Cape Cod Accepting Applications for Spring 2024 Business Accelerator Program

EforAll Cape Cod is now accepting applications for their fall 2024 business accelerator program. This is a free, one-year program that provides immersive business training, mentorship, and access to an extended professional network. Applications are due by 5pm on August 7th.


Downtown Vitality Act Update

The Downtown Vitality Act, currently under consideration for inclusion in the State’s Economic Development Bond Bill, would establish a fund to allocate 1% of tax revenues from online sales originating in Massachusetts to support staffing and operations of cultural districts, business improvement districts and main street associations  in Gateway Cities (which Barnstable is).

Snack Shack at Hyannis Harbor Overlook Applications Available 

The Town of Barnstable invites food service providers and culinary entrepreneurs to apply to reserve the Snack Shack at the Hyannis Harbor Overlook. The Snack Shack, located adjacent to the HyArts Artist Shanties, offers a highly-visible and free pop-up location available to use by local food service providers.
